Remembrance Sunday, 8th November, 2026
Approximate timings & Order of events.

  • 10:45am — Parade through the town lead by Thurlstone Brass Band— Slaidburn
  • 10:55 — Official service begins outside St Johns church in the Market Square
  • 10:58 — Parade to attention — “They shall not grow old”, “We shall remember”
  • 11.00 — Last Post (Thurlstone Brass Band)
  • 2 minutes silence
  • 11:02 — Reveille (Thurlstone Brass Band)
  • Wreath laying roll of Honour – Band to play 2 hymns: Cwm Rhondda/Jereuselam
  • Reading
  • God save the King — (Thurlstone Brass Band)
  • FINAL PARADE around the Penistone squareabout—Thurlstone Brass Band to lead
  • Fall out.
  • Event ends.

Wreath Laying Order

  • The Sovereign’s Representative: the Deputy Lieutenant brings his own wreath accompanied by 2 cadets
  • Civic VIPs: Mayor and Penistone Town Hall
  • Representatives of Regular Forces: including Merchant Navy (a Penistone tradition)
  • Representatives of Armed Forces Reserves
  • Representatives from the Legion: Branch, Club and Women’s Section
  • Representatives of Uniformed Public Services: Police, Fire Brigade and Amulance Services
  • Representatives of Uniformed Voluntary Services:  St John’s Ambulance, Red Cross
  • Representatives of Cadet Forces
  • Representatives of Youth Organisations: Scouts, Guides etc
  • Members of the Public: including other Community Groups

Remembrance Day Temporary Road Closures
The following roads in Penistone will be closed between 10.00am – 12.00 noon on Sunday 8th November.
(Subject to change. Correct on 1st Septemeber 2026.)

  • Back Lane
  • Church Street
  • High Street
  • Market Place
  • Market Street
  • Park Avenue
  • St Mary’s Street
  • Schole Avenue
  • Shrewsbury Road

Please note: The St John’s Community Centre Car Park on Church Street as well as the spaces outside the church on the squareabout need to be free of all vehicles between the evening of Saturday 7th November until noon on Sunday 8th.

The space will be used for activities and preparation for Remembrance Sunday.
