The next local elections will take place on 7th May 2026.

Penistone voters will be asked to elect both Penistone town councillors and local government councillors to represent them on Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council.

Penistone Town Council is divided into 4 wards as follows:

  • Penistone (central) – 6 seats
  • Cubley & SpringVale – 4 seats
  • Thurlstone & Millhouse Green – 3 seats
  • Hoylandswaine – 2 seats

For those wishing to stand as a town councillor, nomination packs for all 4 wards are available from the Penistone Town Council office by contacting admin@pentowncouncil.gov.uk or 01226 370088. Nominations open on 31 March and close at 4pm on 9 April. All nomination packs must be returned by hand to Barnsley Town Hall between these two dates. You will need to make an appointment to return your pack, by contacting Barnsley Electoral Services on 01226 772343 or electoralservices@barnsley.gov.uk

Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council divides the Penistone area into 2 wards, Penistone West and Penistone East, each of which has 3 seats.
