The centenary of the Penistone War Memorial was marked by a short ceremony. Prayers were read by the Reverend David Hopkin of St John the Baptist Church and a commemorative wreath was laid by the Deputy Mayor of Penistone, Cllr. Jonathan Cutts.
Penistone Town Council would like to thank the organiser of this event, Mr Joseph Pinguey, who is retiring due to ill health from his voluntary work as a custodian of war graves in the Penistone area.
Mr Pinguey was awarded the Freedom of the Town in 2019 for his many years of dedicated service to the community.
