Section 137 of the Local Government Act 1972

Section 137 of the Local Government Act 1972 gives Town, Parish and Community Councils in England and Wales the ability to spend a limited amount of money for purposes for which they have no other specific statutory power.

It allows Councils to spend money on projects they believe will benefit some or all of their residents.

The amount of money that can be spent under Section 137 is capped and is usually set annually in line with inflation.

The 2025/26 limit is £11.10 per elector

The 2024/25 limit is £10.81 per elector.
The 2023/24 limit was £9.93 per elector.
The 2022/23 limit was £8.82 per elector.
The 2021/22 limit was £8.41 per elector.
The 2020/21 limit was £8.32 per elector.
